The repair costs proved to be more expensive than I could handle, and the camera could not be sold for parts or for any meaningful trade-in value.While at the camera store, it was cleaned, inspected, and deemed worthless. I got a free body cap and third-party battery out of it, though! They even returned it without charging me.I looked to used stores and marketplaces to get a replacement body and lens. The price for a second body was similar to the repair quote. It was a better deal; if I had accepted the repair cost, the camera would be fixed in one specific regard, with other issues remaining. It still had the danger of breaking down the line, and it had been used in unforgiving conditions. The second body was "lightly used", so the ticking clock of breakage is set further back.
