I have many different potatoes this year because I bought several at a potato day, where you can get a few different varieties rather than a big bag of a single type. Then an allotment neighbour gave me a random collection that he had acquired at a similar event and been unable to find space for. So one way or another there are a lot. I suspect we may get rather overwhelmed but for now I am celebrating the allotment gold that is the first dig of new potatoes. I knew they would be there because I spotted a rainbow over the plot a few months ago – it is very faint but it is there. As well as the gold, there are rubies And black pearls The blackcurrants haven’t been so productive this year. I am not sure why – overenthusiastic pruning, weather, birds – who knows?
