It strikes a very nice balance of not being too isolated, yet also not being the loud online mess that is modern social media. That's so true and one of the reasons so many of us have fallen in love with Bear. A feeling of being connected without being overwhelmed. That delicate balance is a rare gift. The beauty of Bear is that we can also shift the balance. If we feel like taking a step back at times, all we need to do is add the make_discoverable: false attribute to our posts. No more upvote button or being featured in the discovery feed. The same goes for the features.
