I thought of a new idea for finding new material for my blog. I asked Google AI if there had been any new discoveries of Pleistocene fossil remains in Georgia since 2018. Google AI said “yes” and it cited a paper published in 2012. I pointed out the date of the paper to Google AI, and it acknowledged its mistake and cited another paper published in 1989. When I informed the robot of the date of this paper, Google AI claimed to be embarrassed (I didn’t think a robot could be embarrassed) and admitted there were none but noted there is an ongoing dig at Clark Quarry near Brunswick, Georgia. I already knew about this dig. It was first discovered during 2001 when a nearly complete long-horned bison (Bison latifrons) skull and the remains of partial adult and juvenile mammoths (Mammuthus columbi) were found here. Dr. Al Mead from Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville is in charge of the dig, and his students are also studying the remains. It’s the only ongoing…
