I realised I haven’t posted anything about our little Greek Spur-Thighed tortoise Bean, apart from a very brief introduction on the pets page. Bean came to live with us June last year. We didn’t do the best research and got her from a pet shop - at least she was bred domestically and has a valid certificate. We housed her in a 4x2 feet indoor enclosure we’d custom built for a hamster years ago (yes, hamsters actually need large habitats!). As Bean was so small, not even a year old, this was fine as a temporary measure. Our intent was to build an outdoor home for her, but we didn’t manage to do it last year. Then we had to move house earlier this year, so that would have been frustrating. Last month we finally got around to putting together a semi-permanent summer enclosure for her. We’d been stuck deciding what to buy, but then remembered we had a couple of old metal chicken runs in the garage. Why not modify those so she has something right now? We’d already found the perfect spot.…
