Still Time!

I heard someone talking—or maybe I read it—about how, if you’re writing books and stuff like that, the older you are, the more respected you are. But if you’re writing contemporary music, you’ve got to be young. I didn’t write much when I was young, and what I did write was horrible. And when I’m in a writing groove now, I know it’s better. My demo performances are off sometimes. I’m cleaning out SoundCloud right now, and listening back to all these old recordings is, of course, horrifying. But the songs are good. The performances are ok to iffy to bad, and they’re basically spur-of-the-moment demos. I think when you’re first writing, you get lucky and the demo sounds good. Then, once you get better at writing, your demos sound worse, but your songs are better. So I’m trying to make a list of everything that’s a keeper. That way, when I want to do a record or something, I’ve got a huge cache of songs, and some of them will go together. I’m in full dispute with the idea that you have…
