Anthropic and OpenAI have legacy software media in the blender because they are playing a new game. They are legitimately racing to build God. The products they release are one-off fundraising vehicles to buoy the next training run. ==They are not trying to build long-term consumer goodwill.== If you thought you could build recursive, artificial super intelligence in the next 18 months, which would let you achieve escape velocity and dictate the future of humanity, but needed a few trillion dollars to get there, you wouldn’t care about clear-eyed products and Mac-asses Mac apps. — I am just so tired of this coverage of the inexplicable. This is all explicable! Listen to what the people with power say and then try to empathize with what decisions you would make if you were a true believer with their same incentives.
