For some of us the hardest thing in the world is to be a good friend to ourselves. Many of us harbour misgivings as to our worth; it is difficult in the world as it is today to find a direction that does not lead to unflattering comparison. Be cognisant that there are market forces driving and benefiting from such things, and that we live in an age where these market forces have their tentacles in everything. A market is a place you go to get things you need. It makes no sense to log on to your social media profiles in search of people to envy or resent- that is not something you need. Similarly for the news; gather the minimal information you need to be sufficiently informed, and then cease. Beware information bias - for most of us worrying about geopolitics is about as useful as a mouse worrying about an increase in the cat population in another country.
