Review by Sandre the Giant Released: 19th June 2026 This is the second record from Iceland’s Vafurlogi, and ‘Gneisti af eldi Guðs’ had a different gestation from their 2024 debut ‘Í vökulli áþján’. That came from a short but intense period of creativity, whereas ‘Gneisti af eldi Guðs’ was built on material that had been in the works for many years, left to grow and evolve in the deep. ‘Gneisti af eldi Guðs‘ is out now through Norma Evangelium Diaboli. Grandiose Icelandic black metal is always going to tickle the fancy around here, but Vafurlogi are a band I haven’t spent any time with before this record, and it immediately feels like a mistake as opener ‘Af heilagri heift’ pours from the speakers like ghostly obsidian magma.
