Earlier this year I discovered a new shop in a very old haunt of mine. Just around the corner from my primary school in Terenure lies Liberties Papers. This is a petite shop hidden away in a corner. They stock all kinds of paper and cloth. Walking in, it is very cramped but there's a bit of magic about the place and I really enjoyed browsing while I waited for my workshop to start. I took part in a bookbinding workshop where we created small notebooks. Ann Kenny was out instructor and kept everything very simple. I believe it was a class of 6 with plenty of table space upstairs. After a couple of practice runs, we were allowed to go down to the shop space and pick any paper we liked for our end pages and covers. This was really a lovely experience, and it was great to see every picking through their options. For me, as an absolute beginner, I sometimes felt I was falling behind as I struggled with the needling and with keeping the pages even. The class was mostly older women and then…
