Good news for readers of Nadezhda Khvoshchinskaya! A cluster of articles about her, compiled by Aleksei Vdovin, is out in Novoe literaturnoe obozrenie: First up is A. Kim’s translation of Hilde Hoogenboom’s “‘Я раб действительности’: Nadezhda Khvoshchinskaia, Realism, and the Detail,” which focuses on her letters and three early prose works, Temptation (Искушение, 1852), The Meeting (Встреча, 1860, not to be confused with 1879’s Свидание, sometimes also called “The Meeting”), and The Boarding-School Girl (Пансионерка, 1861). Next, Alexey Vdovin and Maria Verbitskaya find an “unnoticed dialogue” between In Hope of Something Better (В ожидании лучшего, 1860) and Dostoevsky’s novels of the early 1860s.
