If you’ve read my blog before, you may know that I run a very small business with my husband. He makes horror-themed artwork 1 that we send pretty much everywhere, but the vast majority of our orders end up going to the US. We’ve loved having a global customer base, but as the years have gone by it’s become more challenging to send to so many different places. The tariffs imposed last year by the US were a huge source of worry and we genuinely believed we would have to suspend sales there. Thankfully it turns out our custom art is exempt, but the goalposts keep moving and we can never sit on our laurels for long. The latest challenge is the EU. It’s been a growing problem since Brexit, which totally killed the customs union and hit our customers with import fees. We lost a few collectors who just couldn’t afford the sudden, drastic jump in cost. Now there’s new regulations coming in for how these import fees are collected.
