Being made up of former Emperor members as well as fellow black metallers Myrkskog will probably do that to you though. We’ve covered ‘Aeon’ on this series before, but we now get to the one where I discovered them, 2006’s ‘Disintegrate’. This record got its claws into me pretty early on, and to this day I often call it out as a truly underrated death metal record. Let me explain why it still holds that distinction for me, twenty years on. First of all, that guitar tone of Samoth’s is unreal, channelling his heaviest moments of classic Emperor as well as some old Asphyx and Vader as well. With Destructhor of Myrkskog on lead guitar as well, they formed an incredibly tight death metal unit, combining steamrolling death groove and nasty blackened riffing, but there’s so much of latter Emperor… No comments yet.
