It's gotten easier and easier to just press a button and have AI give me the answers. I've noticed a tendency in myself to reach for Claude not just for routine work, but also for things like processing my thoughts or ideating for me. Automating or streamlining boring tasks is one thing; in fact, AI excels at this kind of work. However, outsourcing creative work (or even emotional labour) to AI feels like a step too far. Of course, AI companies want us to treat their creations like magic boxes which can solve all our problems. But indiscriminate use of these magic boxes to get over ideation hurdles, or give us relationship advice because those things can be frustrating, is taking the easy way out. What happens then, if for whatever reason, we lose access to these AI tools - then what happens to our ability to think critically, originally, or empathetically?
