id Software Hit Hard by Layoffs

I can’t really say anything about this, but I wanted to record it anyway, because id Software had a profound impact on my early career. Some of the most fun I ever had at work was running Quake servers at Portuguese ISPs–which is, quite literally, how I ended up in marketing instead of engineering. I still keep a Quake III Arena page around, clan banners and all, for old times’ sake, and somehow this feels harder than the mainstream layoff news.
