It’s pretty simple: To quickly improvise an encounter, budget 6 HP per PC, and try to keep the number of monsters equal to or lower than the number of characters. I’ve been thinking about Daggerheart adversaries and improvising Daggerheart encounters. Olivia just talked about how she builds an adversary and Sly Flourish eviscerated the encounter building on his show the other week. No doubt it is one of the weakest elements of the the game. Also there are ten monster types and five of them start with “s” (standard, support, social, skulk, solo) and that’s too much for my brain. Also, with HP, Evasion, Armour, and damage thresholds, the math gets a little muddy. But HP are pretty clear: monsters can take 1, 2, or 3 HP for each character hit.
