Instead of gab on it in a social media thread like my reflex usually is, I figured I’d just spew my scattered thoughts into a post. I. This is, obviously, very bad. It is also, sadly, not surprising. Video games’ transition to an all-digital future seems to be inevitable, as far as I understand. If we were all privy to the year-over-year graphs showing the trend of digital sales versus physical sales, the graphs that execs of every publisher and platform holder are looking at, we would probably throw up our hands and accept the inevitability too. Ten or fifteen years from now I imagine nearly every video game will be a digital download, not a physical item you get from a store.
