In his post, "I'm just so bored of AI," Terence Eden says words that speak directly to my soul: I can't fucking wait for this bubble to burst so we can go back to chatting shit about literally anything else. I have long felt that the discussion of AI, whether from its entranced advocates or from its knowledgeable critics, becomes part of a never-ending, self-sustaining debate where debating anything is fair game, regardless of topic. It's another entry point in the "need" to talk something to death. When a topic simply becomes more fuel for the fire, you end up with a couple forms of censorship: first, by flattening topics for discussion as to what's "acceptable;" second, by ensuring any topic requires prolonged debates or discussions to the subatomic level. In either format, folks who wish to talk about other topics, or even to talk casually about AI, get steamrolled by the prevailing attitude of being all-in on the discussion.
