A couple of years after my first exposure to Picasso at the Hakone Open-air Museum in Japan, I decided to learn more about Picasso and the history of painting in general. Thus, I signed up for an art appreciation class at university. "Portrait of Dora Maar" by Pablo Picasso, 1937 I knew next to nothing about artists, styles and the history of painting. My lack of knowledge made for a great class - there were so many interesting things to learn about! I found that I especially loved modern art. As I learned more about Picasso I came to like his style more and more. I am not sure what drew me to his paintings - I just knew that I liked the colors, the subjects and the weird way that people were displayed! I learned about Cubism and why many of his subjects have eyes on the same side of the face, or two noses. There were many Picasso pieces that I loved, but eventually I narrowed it down to one to buy for my apartment: Portrait of Dora Maar. I really liked having it, but I quickly found…
