Storm of Steel by Ernst Jünger 0 ▲ felix.gripe 1 hour ago · History · hide · 0 comments Harrowing. The autobiographical story of a 19yo private who signs up on the first day of WWI and follows his journey as a german stormtrooper through pretty much every famous battle on the western front. The Somme, Ypres, Paschendale, Verdun, Spring Offensive etc etc. The horror, death, gore, terror, is relentless. Hard to believe how much war one man can face. His descriptions of the constant shelling really are eye opening and horrifying. What a powerful, well-written read, I could hardly put it down. Not for the squeamish. Wounded 14 times, it’s incredibe he didn’t die like most of his friends and brothers in arms. He lived to 102 years old I heard it discussed on this rest is history podcast about trench warfare recently and after reading a farewell to arms, ⭐️⭐️ this week I was in the mood for more WWI history No comments yet.
