Sunday Asides #102 Yesterday marked the 250th birthday of these here United States, and a few days before, Gallup released the results of their latest poll which showed American pride is at an all-time low. Hopefully that's not surprising to anyone who's been paying attention to current events! Maybe that explains why the government's Great American Potemkin Village State Fair is a complete flop. It's not Fyre Festival levels of disaster, but it’s up there with DashCon, I think. Based on all the videos I've seen reporting from the event, there's not a corn dog or a funnel cake or a petting zoo to be found. Just tens of people milling about shoddily constructed booths and roasting in that swamp ass DC summer heat. There's nowhere for people to sit, and there's even a report of a woman who took a dip in a baptism pool there (???) to cool off. TERROR!
