A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway

Probably his most famous work, but I didn’t enjoy it as much as the critics do. It sounds insane to criticise hemingway’s writing but I found his stacatto sentences offputting e.g: I wanted to go to Austria without war. I wanted to go to the Black Forest. I wanted to go to the Hartz Mountains. Where were the Hartz Mountains anyway? They were fighting in the Carpathians. I did not want to go there anyway. It might be good though. I could go to Spain if there was no war. The sun was going down and the day was cooling off. After supper I would go and see Catherine Barkley. I wished she were here now. I wished I were in Milan with her. Also his relentless boozing is boring, probably half the words in the book are about wine or vermouth or whisky or grappa or cognac. It was the same in The Sun Also Rises, review ⭐️⭐️). I found the war stuff gripping but thought the romance dialogue overly saccharine.
