There’s little to report back on given how close the film tracks to the book. At the time this novel was released over a series of six parts, much like some of Dickens’ work. I read it all in one massive tome I could barely lift. It’s not a particularly long read though, in spite of its size I tore through it. It’s noteworthy on a personal level because it’s also my first ever Stephen King novel. I like his knack for giving you a sense of time and place through the way the narrator speaks. Somehow you are always in a sweaty 1930s Louisiana prison. I don’t so much care for the narrative itself, which on the page is even more iffy than on screen. As someone at the book club pointed out to me, it’s not the first of his works that feature a magical black person, and it gives weird vibes.
