I’ve begun a project to significantly clean up my Instagram followers list. I have a love-hate relationship with the platform, and at this moment, I’ve sandboxed myself to experiencing Instagram only inside a sandboxed browser on my laptop. It does not deserve a spot on my iPhone; photo sharing is limited to Pixelfed for those occasions. I was following over 1500 people on Instagram and I had no idea who most of them were. I’ve added way too many people to this list. So I’ve been scrolling my way through, determining who should go and who should stay. Instagram makes it very difficult to remove people, with constant reminders that they may follow you, or that you’ll have to ask to follow them again should you choose to do so. My goal is to get this list way below 1000 in the next few days. Again, Instagram makes this very difficult, so it’s slow going, especially when using the web interface.
