My Archibald choice.

Toured the gallery of NSW on a perfectly gallery touring sort of day. That is, fairly chucking it down. Paintings from the Archibald Prize entries were on show. At its heart, the Archibald Prize is about storytelling. Who are the people our artists have chosen to paint and what do their portraits reveal to us? In this exhibition, Australian and New Zealand artists use portraiture to share the beauty and complexity of our times. — Art Gallery of NSW. My pick for the peoples choice was the painting by David Darcy (above) titled: To whom: let’s be Frank, it’s no walk in the park. It is a portrait of Dale Frank…of whom Darcy describes: “Dale Frank is an enigma; the elusive and mysterious unicorn of Australian art – a reclusive, defiant, brash, whisky-drinking, wisecracking, moustache-twirling virtuoso, with a reputation for being spontaneously indifferent, difficult and captivating all at the same time” No mistake, I am no art critic, but I do like a good chalked alien when I see one.
