The technical demo for Final Fantasy VII on the PS3

I was far removed from Final Fantasy and PlayStation when this came out so I had no idea of its existence until recently. Above is the technical demo for a remake of Final Fantasy VII on the PS3, presented at E3 in 2005. Judging by the comments, some people bought the console off the back of this prospect even though Yoichi Wada explicitly stated that they weren’t working on a remake and this was merely to show the capabilities of the console (something I’ve touched on in the past). Of course, we would get a remake for the PS4 15 years later as part of a trilogy which will conclude with Revelation due out in 2027 and to critical acclaim. But it’s interesting to see how it could have looked with “inferior” specs in the mid-00s and how that boosted sales of the PS3, even a little.
