Kindred by Octavia E. Butler

Engrossing sort of sci fi in which a black 25yo woman in LA gets mysteriously called back in time to a plantation in the antebellum south whenever the slave owner’s life is threatened. Really powerful and horrible exposition of the cruelty of slavery. Not a normal beach read but glad I picked it up.
