I’ve never exactly made it a secret that one of my favorite consoles of all time was the Nintendo 3DS, but I also had never owned or even held an original sized version. I’ve personally owned an original 3DS XL as well as a New 2DS XL because bigger is always better, right? But recently I’ve been curious. Unfortunately the secondhand market for handhelds has been pretty broken for more than a few years now, with used devices in decent shape often selling for upwards of $300 dollars. The prices can get downright silly for “New” versions as well as special editions. Not exactly the atmosphere to satisfy random curiosity. On a semi-recent trip to Half-Price Books, however, I came across an original 3DS in Cosmic Black with “as is” and “for parts” stickers on it for fifty bucks.
