Skills learnt from 18 months as a Cable Infrastructure Technician

Pre-wire a house with Cat6A, fibre, KNX, coax, audio, HDMI, LAN and security cable. Pre-wire gates. Terminate into data jacks, RJ45, punch down and keystone patch panels, Phoenix connectors, f-types.. into touchscreens, keypads, lightswitches, pucks, gate motors and beams, smoke alarms, sirens, PIRs, cameras, speakers, subs, TVs, wall sockets. Extend or fix cut cables with connectors, gel crimps, solder. Drill out cable routes through walls, ceilings, roof, timber/concrete/metal. Test continuity and current flow. Separation of cables with high-voltage. Install data racks - wall-mounted, recessed, floor standing. Install and terminate low-voltage dinrail KNX devices. Test and configure lighting circuits. Work with other trades - builders, sparkies, plumbers - to plan design solutions. Route conduit runs to separate buildings, street. Fish cable through ceilings, walls, floor, conduits. Drill out cables in finished walls and ceilings for device fit off. Terminate underfloor heating…
