The Supreme Court legitimized bigotry again this morning with the excuse of protecting the children — or at least, those who play sports. The laws about transgender athletes have never been about sports or fairness, though. It’s not even just about trans people. They are about using the language of eugenics to narrow the definitions of gender and laying the groundwork so they can impose their gender roles onto everyone. Clarence Thomas knew that. And said the quiet — and scientifically wrong — bit out loud: In a concurring opinion, in which no other justice joined, Justice Clarence Thomas rejected the idea that transgender people are deserving of “immutable characteristics. … Men and boys with gender dysphoria are not women or girls, even if they believe that they are,” Thomas wrote.
