McKinness, an aspiring young rapper from Southern California, was a passenger in his friend’s 2005 Nissan Sentra as it ploughed through a red light, lost control, and slammed into a wall in someone’s backyard, instantly killing him and three others with a fifth later succumbing to his injuries at a nearby hospital. YOLO is an acronym for “You Only Live Once” made popular across social media after the song “The Motto” by Drake hit the charts the previous year. It is usually preceded by admissions of recklessness or stupidity.
