Running pkgbasify on FreeBSD 15.1 0 ▲ Dan Langille's Other Diary 1 hour ago · 49 min read9763 words · Tech · hide · 0 comments At BSDCan 2026, I attended the pkgbase in Production: A Practical Overview talk. What impressed me was the ease with which one could upgrade from 15.0 to 15.1 etc. Included in the demonstration was pkgbasify (“Automatically convert a FreeBSD system to use pkgbase”). In this post: the host being modified is running FreeBSD 15.0 Today, I took the plunge on my r730-01 host. Following the instructions at https://github.com/FreeBSDFoundation/pkgbasify I did the following. I created my own new boot environment (BE). This is where I could fall back, should the upgrade fail. The upgrade process will ask if you want to create a new BE. See blow. [17:39 r730-01 dvl ~] % sudo bectl create before-pkgbasify [17:39 r730-01 dvl ~] % uname -a FreeBSD r730-01.int.unixathome.org 15.0-RELEASE-p10 FreeBSD 15.0-RELEASE-p10 GENERIC amd64 This is not in the instructions, but I did it anyway. [17:41 r730-01 dvl ~] % sudo freebsd-update fetch install src component not installed, skipped Looking up… No comments yet. Log in to reply on the Fediverse. Comments will appear here.
