[notes] Asking: Should I Take Notes on This? 0 ▲ Chris Krycho 1 hour ago · Life · hide · 0 comments Trying to prod myself a little into reading more carefully. I read a lot of articles online, and I hold onto a lot of the ideas from them sort of “ambiently”, but I often find myself sad when I want to point back to them — and I also don’t know exactly what I’ve read. Going to start asking myself after each read: “Should I take some basic notes on this?” Obviously I still have to act on that thought to make it meaningful, but I suspect that pausing to consider it will help me with being able to link people to things more easily, and more importantly to remember in more detail what I have read. I’ll learn more deeply that way, I expect. It will also, secondarily, nudge me: was this worth reading? You cannot always predict that ahead of time, but if I find myself saying “no, not worth taking notes on” to too many articles in a row, that’s probably a sign that I’m not being wise enough in what I choose to spend my time reading!
