Hypnolovewheel - Parallel UniverseReintroducing Hypnolovewheel! This excellent band made several albums worth of impeccable indie pop from the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s, sharing stages and labels with that era’s cream of the crop, from Galaxie 500 to Superchunk to Yo La Tengo. And it’s that latter band’s James McNew who has helpfully compiled Parallel Universe, a best-of that’s packed with sweet melodies, crunchy guitars and lyrics that walk a fine line between heart-on-the-sleeve and witheringly sarcastic. Hypnolovewheel didn’t break through like some of their peers, but this collection (the kickoff of a full reissue program) gives them their due and then some.
