Review: Resumption – The Respite 0 ▲ The Killchain 1 hour ago · Music · 0 comments Review by Sandre the Giant Released: 17th April 2026 The debut from Swedish/now Portugal-based death/doom act Resumption, ‘The Respite’, is an album that channels old fashioned death doom from the early 90s, not necessarily the glacial, monolithic crush of much of the modern genre. The band is the brainchild of Wilhelm Lindh, the guitarist from Swedish melodic death/doom band The Gardnerz (check out their 2010 record ‘The System of Nature’, really good), and ‘The Respite’ is out now. A crunchy, old fashion death/doom record, ‘The Respite’ takes you straight back to the halcyon days of the early 90s in the mournful tones of early Paradise Lost and My Dying Bride. There’s a touch of guttural funeral doom about ‘Self Reliance’ too, in execution rather than pace but it streams from the dark heavens nonetheless. I like the fact that Resumption don’t just drag out one idea into eight or nine minutes, instead preferring shorter tracks that get that point across quicker. The riffs are still… No comments yet.
