This month started off with a colonoscopy, which, honestly, is not the best way to start a month. *record scratch* - let me explain (spoiler: I’m absolutely fine). Here in the UK the NHS sends out home testing kits for bowel cancer (called colorectal cancer in the US) every two years to everyone over 50 years of age. You do the test, pop the results in the freepost envelope provided, and usually you get a letter from the NHS a couple of weeks later saying “all clear”. Not so this year - I got flagged up for further investigation in the form of a colonoscopy. Now, the NHS do stress that there’s only a ~10% chance that it’s bowel cancer - there are many other lesser problems that can cause you to be flagged, and this was indeed the case for me. So, after a mandatory fibre-free diet for two days followed by a course of laxatives (possibly worse than the actual colonoscopy), I turn up for my appointment at Hastings Conquest Hospital, have… No comments yet.
