Gothamist is reporting this morning that "a pro-landlord member of the Rent Guidelines Board resigned in protest on Thursday," apparently because the other board members were, as she accuses them, "ignoring rising operating costs of landlords." And I guess I'm just confused. If these landlords have increased financial obligations, why not simply take on more work in order to help meet them? Surely, they can find some shift work that would help bring in a little extra cash to help make ends meet? Perhaps they could ask their partners or children to help out. I'm certain Amazon is hiring. This seems like an easy solve for what amounts, in my mind, to a personal problem. There's no law against working a second or third job if that is what's required to maintain the lifestyle one has chosen for oneself. If you really want to be a landlord, you must accept the financial responsibilities that come with that decision. I didn't tell them to buy the building(s) they own, so why should it fall…
