Ever since I got my first mechanical keyboard, I’ve been able to turn caps lock, one of the most useless functions on a keyboard, into something actually useful. The keyboard came with a switch on the back that allowed it to act as another control key. It was great! Made for an easier ctrl+s shortcut since my left pinky already sat next to the caps lock key. Been using it for 12 years now. It’s basically second nature. Source: Caps lock is useless and I wish I could remove it There are software utilities for this as well in case you don’t have an external keyboard that can help you set this up. If you are on a Mac, Hyperkey is a delightful, simple utility that can help you convert your CapsLock(⇪) key into a Hyperkey(✦). I personally set it to Hyper(✦) when pressed and Escape(⎋) when tapped. If you’d like more control and don’t want to install a utility written by someone else, you can also enable Karabiner Elements to achieve the same thing. Use an LLM tool to help you configure that.
