Worthy Read is an ongoing series here at the blog where I link out to a piece I think is worth your valuable time. Graham Smith / Jank: The videogame industry wants you to buy games before they’re released because it makes it easier for them to project their future earnings, and because they want your money before you find out whether a game is good or not. Don’t do it. They won’t run out of copies, I promise. I’d been thinking about writing a post similar to this myself, and Graham Smith basically took all the words out of my mouth for me. Especially in this digitally heavy age, there’s zero reason to pre-purchase a game, and even if you do — like, buy it the week of release, if just because you’ve read reviews and can pre-load it. Don’t let the hype consume you, gang.
