One unexpected cultural shock.This is my submission for the June 2026 IndieWeb Carnival. The theme is “No way!?”, hosted by Alex Hsu. As far as financial literacy goes in India, it’s almost always emphasized that you should never share important details such as One-Time Passwords (OTPs) or confidential information like your card number, CVV, and so on. And since I’m so responsible with my finances, I’ve followed this whole-heartedly. Just recently, when I had to reschedule my Lufthansa flight over the German support line, the staff asked me for my card details… yes, you heard that right. I was a bit shocked at first! I asked her again, “Should I just speak it out?” to which she replied, “Yes, please go ahead. This is a secure line.” I told her all the details — the card number, the expiry date, and the CVV. My card was charged the next day for the same. I’m honestly surprised by how normalized this apparently is in the EU and the US. My whole life was a lie! I knew that you don’t need…
