Lowering your standards can increase your acceptable creative output and reduce your attachment to outcomes without needing to lower the quality of your work. I believe that artists create art less the more they believe they can't. What faith should I have in self-proclaimed washed-up artists who haven't shipped art in years? I expect positive self-prophetic beliefs and more frequent output from those describing creativity as their way of life, through aspects like processing their world, expressing themselves, and even connecting with others. Even describing being creative as performing well doesn't shed the inherent risk involved. Even masterful creatives who perform at the highest level of their craft experience off days, failures, and other negative outcomes. That doesn't stop them from learning from their mistakes then continuing to sharpen their game. Yet, things aren't always as they seem.
