Record-breaking temperatures are expected in England and Wales today, and in France and Spain they’ve been even worse. Social media has noticed the uncanny similarity between a fictional weather forecast for August 2050 from French TV in 2014 and yesterday’s actual forecast, on a day when drowning deaths in France soared as people tried to cool off. France recorded its hottest day ever yesterday, with 44.3°C in Landes near Spain, and 68,000 households lost electricity in Finistère when a transformer failed in the heat. Not so bad today: Lisbon (24°C), Warsaw (27°C), and, luckily for me, Edinburgh (24°C).
