Hyde and Kev wrote about their dislike for summarize-option provided by LLM agents in almost all popular software and search engines. I completely agree with them. Although, their focus is on online writing and privacy, I see the same problem when reading a scientific article. This morning, I was attending a scientific talk where the presenter was showing his article in Adobe Reader, and Adobe, annoyingly, kept showing a pop-up at bottom to summarize the article. What the heck. I don't understand why a popular reader needs to push pop-ups of summarizing text without asking its users whether they want it or not. Adobe reader is already a bloated software, and adding Ask AI option in the top secondary bar with colourful icon makes it even more ugly and distracting. Furthermore, how can one believe the answers of a LLM agent especially if they are not the most accurate ones like GPT and Claude. In the end, reading a research paper will become even more frustrating if a LLM is used there.…
