I knew this would happen, but I just stumbled across one more Steam demo I want to showcase after posting my big demo roundup the other day. The game is called Wind Runners, and it's a 2D action roguelike / bullet hell / shoot 'em up in which you fly a lil plane around and shoot dudes who are shooting at you. There are a million games I could compare it to—Luftrausers comes to mind—but it feels like a good one of those. It mainly stood out to me with its really pretty mix of gorgeous 2D pixel art and low-poly 3D. The opening stages are played in this extremely vibrant world of blue skies, green hills, blue waters, and best of all for me, gigantic clouds. Your ship creates little waves of spray when you get too close to the water and turn away from it, which is a lovely little touch. There's also a bangin' drum & bass soundtrack, which I always love, and helps you lock the fuck in. But obviously what got me to write about it is that it feels great to play.
