Someone once said there’s a sure way to know if you are a humble person: If you think you are, you’re not! I’ve pondered the idea of humility a fair bit, over the years. I do not see it as something to strive for. It’s not a box to tick or an “am I there yet?” quality to keep checking in with. The truth is that we in our earthly state are all painfully humble (closer to the ground — see Charlotte’s Web — than to heaven), but sometimes we forget that. It is far too easy to think we are better than others in one thing or another, or that we deserve better life circumstances than those in which we find ourselves. Humility is the natural state of things when we are aware of our true standing before God; when we can see ourselves as He does. Our good points, our failures, and the unearned grace He offers to bring us safely back to the Father. All our false…
