There’s something about setting up a new VPS that I find satisfying and I can’t explain it. It feels like speed-running a game but instead of getting to the final boss as fast as possible, it’s getting the service I need up and running as fast as possible. I setup a new VPS today for a few self-hosted services: Umami Analytics FreshRSS Uptime Kuma Everyone who is willing to learn about sysadmin should give it a try. A VPS can be cheap depending on the size and capable. After setting up all three services, my CPU usage is at 2%, but I just checked memory usage and it’s at 700mb/1gb, so I might have to resize the VPS. To give you an idea of the savings, this $8 droplet is saving me $10 a month from the RSS app I was considering subscribing to. If the analytics work out, that’s another $5 a month and I didn’t have any uptime monitoring so that’s something I had never considered that I now have included. You do lose time setting up the VPS but for me personally I feel like the savings are…
