Big Ideas.
I have always been a fan of the 1960s and ’70s television show “Bewitched”. I have always found the special effects and their accompanying sound effects, er, bewitching, and as I grew older, I became more and more appreciative of the earlier seasons of the show. The first two seasons were filmed and broadcast in black and white until they were colorized in 2000. These same two seasons were not included in syndication for just about the entirety of the 1980s until Nick at Nite picked up the show in 1990 or so. The series has been remastered a couple of times (yay for 35mm prints vs video). The black and white episodes, the first season especially, had a more adult theme. Stories addressed young married couple issues, and for the most part, the witchcraft was sprinkled in. Producer Bill Asher (Elizabeth Montgomery’s husband) always described “Bewitched” as a love story, first and foremost. The witchcraft elements were secondary.
