Today started with a misunderstanding between my digital scale and the corresponding app on my smartphone. Don’t even ask—it had something to do with Bluetooth. So I spent the first twenty minutes of this morning trying to smooth things over, encouraging my scale to give the HealthManager app another try, while at the same time patting the HealthManager app on the shoulder in a consoling manner—an offer of reconciliation that it acknowledged only with a progress bar that seemed to stretch on forever. My efforts were useless. In the end, I took the battery out of the scale and uninstalled the app. I have enough other communication problems to solve; I can’t also deal with the connection glitches of my digital companions. Who even needs a scale like that anyway? Why do I even own something like this?
