June 2026 I’ve already walked the coast of Northumberland so you might be wondering why I’m posting another walk there. Well the simple reason is that I went back there because I enjoyed the Northumberland coast line so much and decided to re-walk this section because last time I did it in heavy rain, at least for much of the walk and today the weather was (a bit) better. I had travelled up to the North East for a weekend. The previous day I had walked up to the highest point of Northumberland, The Cheviot. If you take the highest point of each county in England, Northumberland is the 2nd highest at 815m (the highest is Scafell Park in Cumbria at 978m). I was staying at the Ramada Encore hotel in Gateshead. This was mostly a good choice and reasonably priced for the weekend (just over £60 per night). The only downside is that it is clearly mostly targeted at business travelers, so breakfast doesn’t start until 8am at weekends. So I’d got some supplies in my room for breakfast then…
