There are Feelings Printed onto These Songs

I’ve got a big yacht rock DJ set tomorrow. 4 hours! Initially, I crammed together a few playlists, started picking through them, and realized there is a stupid amount of smooth 70s music out there. And a lot of it is complete sh%t. So I started deleting. Then I basically started over. As I’ve mentioned here before, the DJ rule of preparing twice as much music as you think you’re going to play is a good one. For a four-hour set, I now have a little over eight hours of music, which feels like a super comfortable place to be. And I’ve got it to where every song on the list has some kind of memory pull for me. Something from being a kid growing up in the 70s. You can play these songs straight, one after another, and they work. But there is something about being in the room that changes the feeling. It’s really crazy.
